Summerfest Day 1

Summerfest Day 1
Grounds viewing / walking / Jeff Beck

Well after all the waiting for nearly a whole year I headed to Summerfest Friday afternoon with my friend Aaron.  You know its amazing I think him & I have gone to well over 30+ shows together when no one else really wanted to go.  I really never kept count but realized this thought on Friday.

Most of the afternoon was walking around and seeing what has changed at Summerfest this year.  We always point out the little changes like random signs that changed or new places to eat.  Summerfest is always good at keeping the grounds fresh & making little changes that not many people notice.   Of course the first thing I did when I got there was I had to get my Reuben Rolls from Maders.   Best $4.50 snack on the grounds!  Add a Miller Genuine Draft with it & its pure heaven!

So after my snack we walked around some more to look at the few small attractions, and the shops.  I'm not a big shop person but I always like what Brew City& Smac Design has for shirts about Milwaukee.  Alot of them are hilarious, and its tradition for me to get a shirt from one of them every year at Summerfest.  Visit them at www.brewcityonline.com, http://www.smacdesign.com or follow them on Twitter @brewcityonline, @toomuchmetal or on facebook.  I finally might get my cooler by the lake shirt from Smac Design.  Most of the time was getting free gifts from Potawatomi Casino, 10 free wings from Hooters if you gave them your email (Its always good to have multiple email accounts.  Use one for stuff like this & check it once a month or something), vote for the name of the badger for Frontier airlines, spin the wheel (Won some cookies and a luggage tag), and I signed up to win a Harley from Hal's Harley Davidson and got to pick a duck from their tub.  I didn't win, but Aaron won a free qt of motorcycle oil.  Funny as he doesn't have a bike! LOL  Theres a coupon for 50% a shirt so he gave it to me.  The key is to do the free stuff every couple of hours when the shifts change.  Aaron was on a budget this time and we did that for the free food ones (I kept using Simpson Characters to vote for the badger LOL).

Theres so much going on at Summerfest, but item #2 on the list for me is to people watch (1 The Music, 3 The Food, 4 The Bus Ride, 5 The Attractions).  I just enjoy watching alot of the various types of people at Summerfest and the things some of them will do, how drunk people get, etc.  The usual Goth tree spot had a Refugee Hut this year & no Goths.  Aaron made a very good point that the Goth movement is dead and gave me an elaborate explanation (I'm trying to convince him to blog about it for me).  During people watch we saw Brian Gotter of Today's TMJ4 & chatted with him.  We saw Adam Richman from Travel Channel's Man Vs Food.  We even sat by the rocks and people watched.  Which included watching the Hooters girls hula hoop and run around for a good 30minutes (Yea sue me I'm a guy & single lol).  People were rather normal today.  I did laugh at the girl who was trying to make her chest bigger by using a big ass belt.  Any tighter and she probably would've killed herself.

Yes I did see music!  As the day went on we ran into our friend Mike & I caught a few songs from Cross Country Junction (Country).  They weren't too bad.  I was hoping to see Cowboy Troy for a little bit but I got the phone call to meet up with my Dad, sister, cousin and Uncle to get our spot for Jeff Beck.  Jeff Beck put on a really good show as well.  Its hard to really give it a review as all the songs were the band playing and no lyrics.  Overall Jeff is a great guitar player and doesn't use a pick when he plays!  The band was fully in sync and looked pretty good.  Their bass player used to play for Prince, but now plays for Jeff.  She was really good!

After the show I parted ways from the family, and my friends and I took the bus home.  I have to admit, it was one of the craziest bus rides ever.  We had several drunks on the bus who were trying to sing the wheels on the bus song, recite wrestling quotes, and overall ramble on like crazy.  It was hilarious!  I always say the best entertainment after Summerfest can be the bus ride home if you get the right group of people on it.

Well that is all I have from Day 1.  I did post pictures on Facebook (Some arent that great since I'm using a camera phone), and a short video of the bus ride home (I never used video on my phone and I was mad I missed the better stuff).

Keep watching for my adventures of Summerfest.  I will be posting Day 2 Shortly.
