Summerfest Day 3
A night of more Classic Rock with the Family
Day 3 was a continuation of classic rock music for me at Summerfest again. Tonight I had the luxury of being in the same building with Roger Daltrey and Eric Clapton. This time though I wasn't going to the concert with my friend Aaron. Though he was at the show.
Back in April Eric Clapton announced his Cross Roads tour was going be stopping in Chicago. The show consists of at least 10 other bands that perform the whole day/night (BB king, 311, ZZtop, etc). My dad was dying to go to the show and we were trying everything in our power to go that show. However we got beat out by all the presales days before the show went on sale to the public. A couple of weeks later Eric Clapton announced he was coming to Milwaukee. So I didn't want to miss this opportunity as my dad has always wanted to see Clapton. Well we got tickets (Its another fun story for another day), and my sister and I gave them as a birthday / fathers day gift.
The food of choice tonight was again Mader's Reuben Rolls. I cant help myself they are so good :)
On to the shows!
Roger Daltrey was very impressive and loud. Even with all the races and concerts I've been to that had to be one of the loudest shows I have heard. We got to hear I can See for Miles, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes and others. However we didn't get to hear Pinball Wizard, or Fooled again.
Eric Clapton's show was even more impressive. If you aren't amazed what that guy can do with a guitar you don't like rock n roll music. Clapton played for over an hour and 20minutes. He played an acoustic of Layla, played Cocaine, After Midnight, I Shot the Sheriff, etc. The backup singers were right on cue for their songs.
The only complaint I really had about Clapton was that he can be very acousticy. He played several songs in a row that were all acoustic which was kind of like OK start rocking out for us please. The crowd was alot different than usual crowds, but I think its in relation to when Clapton plays. When he would play songs with the electric, everyone stood up. When a song was played as an acoustic, everyone sat down. Then again the age of the crowd may only have been able to stay standing for only a few songs, and he knew that so he mixed it up for their comfort. LOL Trying to go to the bathroom in between shows was a trip as after Daltrey stopped playing everyone seemed to head for the bathrooms. Must have been their prostates, or medication time or something.
Overall I think my dad had the best time out of all of us. He stopped talking about his experience at the Indy 500 (For Now), and wont be quiet about the show. That includes my friend Aaron. He proclaims Clapton as God!!
Stay tuned for my Day 4 Blog. It should be for Weird Al Yankovic.
