Summerfest Day 4

Summerfest Day 4
A Night of Weirdness, Creepiness, with Weird Al

So what can I say I love a great bargain!  My 4th day of Summerfest fell on $2 Tuesday.  This is the 2nd year Summerfest offered admission for $2 from 12pm-6:30pm by Kapco.  The great part of this was I arrived past 6:30 and they were still running the deal for everyone closer to 7pm (Lots of traffic accidents).  The price of admission is great for almost anyone who wants to go (I actually got to see Goths, baby Goths, and Momma Goths), to listen to crappy bands, get drunk, or just wants to check out a band they weren't 100% they would really care for.  My friend Aaron was the perfect example for this.  He always wanted to see Weird Al Yankovic, but someone better was always playing and it was hard to go see him.  Well we both were kind of debating about seeing Papa Roach.  I think we were both glad with the results from Weird Al

A brief moment to reflect on the bland Saz's sampler platter I had.  It consisted of 2 mozzarella sticks, deep fried cheese curds, and sour cream chive fries.  The first 2 items are always good, but you get too many fries and they get tiring.  If you want to split the moz sticks, and curds, order these items separately and split them and no fries.  Its cheaper than 2 sampler platters and no fries.  Oh yea I had an eclair from Scordato bakery as well.  Very tasty.  Lots of custard.

Summerfest seemed to learn from 3years ago that Weird Al Shows are rather long in length, due to wardrobe changes, crowd singing, and the numerous parodies that are sung in one show!  Last time Weird Al was at Summerfest the show started at 10pm, and went until 12:30am!!  Summerfest closes at midnight.  We literally were being rushed out of the grounds to the parking lots / buses so everyone could go home.  It was great.  So instead of starting the show at 10pm, the show was started at 9pm.  Which worked out really well.

Moving on to the concert.  Well what can I say out of all 4 shows I have been to, each one has been memorable, and this was probably the 2nd best Weird Al show I have been to (Nothing can top sitting in the rain and rocking out till 12:30am).  For people who may never been to a show, its TV PG.  Al tends to cater to fans young and old, families and keeps it rather clean, and limits the swears, and raunchiness.  Though he still provides quality entertainment and hours of laughs!  You cant beat that with a stick!  Sorry fans out of all the shows I have ever been to I have never heard "The Night Santa Went Crazy" and I think theres a reason to not scare kids.

Theres various videos from Al TV that play during Weird Al's wardrobe changes.  It can be artist interviews, cheesy videos about brushing your teeth, to the funniest movie where alot of comedians became famous known as UHF.  Every song pretty much requires a Wardrobe change.  From A Nerdy White Guy, to Kurt Cobain, to a singing rapping Amish guy, its all there! The funniest video I think during the concert had to be his interview with Jessica Sampson (Simpson) http://www.youtube.com/user/alyankovic#p/f/12/pFhA_7Ljby4 .

Al played several of his popular songs (White & Nerdy, Canadian Idiot, Amish Paradise, Yoda, The Saga Begins, Smells Like Nirvana etc), to some rather new songs like Polka Face (Yes he sang Lady Gaga's Poker face), Whatever You Like, and Craig's list.  Yes some were missing, as I heard alot of IT nerds shouting for "Its All About the Pentiums", and even "Albuquerque (My Lord people this is a 15minute song live!)".  There was even a song during the encore about how we all have cell phones, and had the crowd wave their cell phones!

The crowd was really into the whole night.  My friend Aaron was speechless after the show even wanting more songs played as he had a great time.  Aaron made the comment to me that he loves the song "Smells Like Nirvana" alot of more than "Smells Like Teen Spirit.  Not bad for a guy who is a HUGE Nirvana fan (Hes always hated the original as it was vastly overplayed though)!

Now for the weird:  I never thought in my wildest dreams I would see a fight break out at a Weird Al concert!  But yup there it was.  About 6 security guards were pulling this big dude out of the crowd, while about 4 others were restraining another guy.  Wow!  Were you fighting for a lock of his hair or something?  My goodness!!

Now for the Creepy:  When the show was beginning my friend Aaron and I were searching for a spot to stand and watch the show.  He was surprised at the following of Weird Alcoholics that showed up to fill the bleachers before the show started.  We walked by around 8pm and the bleachers were half full.  By 9pm were way way down by the food tents barley seeing the video screen.  No matter to me Ive been to enough Weird Al shows near the front, the middle the back there is no preferred spot.  The first spot we found was near this drunk group of old people.  I felt someone touch the back of my shirt a few times and just took it as normal Summerfest traffic no big deal. WRONG!!!  There was this drunk old lady who had to be in her 50s who kept touching my shirt.  Than she walked in front of us and took a finger and kept stroking it across my chest near the lettering of the shirt.  Very awkward and creepy.  I asked her nicely if I could help her (IE:  Get her back to her group of friends or whatever).  She wanted to know what my shirt said.  I kindly told her Weird Al Yankovic and smiled.  She kept waving her finger around trying to make it out and finally replied Oh yea!  You could see the stern look on my face as I was kind of angry, and uncomfortable (I felt violated), but I didn't want to resort to violence.  I kindly turned around and saw her party and asked if she was theres.  They took her back.  I looked over to Aaron and said hey, you want to go move over there see if we can see better?  Before he said yes I was already heading over there.

Aside from that it was a great night, and I hope Wired Al Yunkavich (Watch the YouTube video to see why) & the band had a great time, and hope to see them back in Milwaukee real soon!  We have plenty of saurkraut!
