Summerfest Day 5

Summerfest Day 5
A Night of Getting One's Ass Kicked by a Great Band!

Summerfest Day 5 FINALLY consisted of something that was not considered an oldies band (Weird Al has been around since 1979ish so that's classical parodies). Err my friends whispered to me that technically The Offspring would be considered oldies since they have been around since 1989.  Dear Lord am I getting old.  I remember listening to Green Day, Bush, The Offspirng, No Doubt some 16 years ago, it doesn't seem like that long ago.  Lesson learned DONT GET OLD!!!

Well before I saw the show I went to people watch before my friends all came down.  To me its my 2nd most favorite thing to do.  You can really get a feel of the diverse crowd that goes to Summerfest, watch the people who were already getting drunk (At 4pm!), who was going to get lucky with some Summertime fling they met at Summerfest & predict them breakup in Autumn, or just outright escaping their everyday boring lives.  It can be fun times.  I always hope Id hear government secrets but I always seem to miss out.  During my people watching I took the time to check out the various street acts that perform at SummerfestTheres alot of little acts, like a band from Ecuador that plays on a little concrete stage on the walkways of Summerfest, and the popular 5gal bucket drummers even got a gig inside of the grounds a few times on the grounds.  Every year we seem to take these steet acts for granted walking by them and ignoring them, so this year  gave them each about 10minutes.  I was really impressed with them.  The rest of the time I escaped from reality by sitting on the rocks watching the lake water.  Cant really explain it but it something wonderful just sitting by the rocks just relaxing that brings a smile to my face.

Today was also my eating day at Summerfest.   I had a Millie's Italian Beef Sandwich, Robby's ear of corn, Saz's Mozzarella Sticks, and Edy's Cookie Dough ice cream!  All very good choices!  Don't ever pass up the ice cream though.   That is the best bargain at Summerfest!

On with the show!  Short and sweet review it topped last years show!  Sure it was at a smaller stage, but the crowds came out in droves again this year to show how much Milwaukee loves having The Offspring at Summerfest!  The band was phenomenal, and was the first show this year where I lost my voice within the first 10minutes!  Last year it was funny hearing the guys name off the restaurants in front of them at the Miller Lite Stage (Especially Saz's they said Sauz's Sez's, or Mozzarella Express! LOL).  Everyone was wishing they would come back this year after how much fun the band had last year coming to Milwaukee.  I hope they are true to their word again for next year.  Maybe we can get them at the Rock stage!

The band played several of their popular songs (Bad Habit, Pretty Fly for a White Guy, Come out and Play, Self Esteem, All I want, and Why Don't You get a Job).  I sang to every song that I could remember! The set was about an hour and fifteen minutes which was about the same as last year.  After the show, the crowd really seemed like it wanted more songs and left with smiles on their faces.

During the show it was entertaining to see the people all around us.  We had several chain pot smokers behind us.  Including a guy with a massively spikes in his hair!  My friend Nate had the great idea of jumping up and down on the picnic table we were standing on determined to get it to break!  Him and his friend Jim were constantly catching me off guard to the point where I was bouncing around and off the table.  At one time I though I was going to be sick.  We came pretty close to breaking the seat part, as it was rather warped in the middle, and was creaking alot.  After Nate and his wife Wendy left, Mr spikey hair jumped behind me and was jumping on the table shouting if we can't break the fucker were going to burn it!!  I'm glad I waited a few seconds to see who was behind me as if I timed it wrong I would have lost an eye from dude's hair!  That guy was nuts him and his friends were so baked they were burning everything they could find, from condoms, cigarette packages, wrappers, bottles, you name it.  I was really worried they were going to try the bench next.  They seemed to have gotten bored and went somewhere else.  Maybe they went to go try to burn down the playground or something. LOL

The people to the left of us were having a great time.  Before the show they were building beer cup / bottle pyramids.  These things had some mad height.  At least 3-4ft tall.  I have posted pictures on my Facebook page.  They were a great group really making the whole picnic table bend and many different ways.

So in closing I want to thank The Offspring for kicking my ass for the 2nd year in a row with a great set list, and performance!! I look forward to you returning for 2011 Summerfest :), even if your not on tour well welcome you with open arms!

Well this was an erupt end to my Summerfest Journey, as due to the storms from 2weeks ago my sister was no longer coming down to Summerfest, and my friend Aaron got an apartment so he was short on cash.  Stay tuned for my end of Summerfest Blog soon.
