Slow cooked ham in beer

Another Successful Don Nelson Act of Cookery!

Alright so alot of you know that the last month, I have been trying to take on the skilled art of cookery.  I already know I am miles behind the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Justin Wilson (The southern chef who was on PBS not the Indycar driver.  WHOOOOO WEEE! I guranteeee it), and Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet on PBS, who is deceased).

Though I am probably catching up to the likes of Chef Paul, and Food network's Giada.  Common guys you all know about Giada.  The sadistical smiling Italian with the low cut tops and cheesy porn music playing in the background as she cuts vegetables.  Yea her!  Its just wrong but its like a bad car accident and you cant help but watch with curiosity which vegetable is going to face the knife next!!!! Ladies the next time you see your man watching this show, you should challenge him to make one of her dishes to see if he is really watching for cooking or not.  Moving along.....

I am pleased to bring you recipe #2 Slow cooked ham in beer!  (I am up to 5 recipes I just haven written about the other 3 which could make a complete meal LOL)

It can't get any simpler than this.

1. Thaw out yer ham!  Depending on the size of the ham this can take awhile.  Figure about 4-5hrs per pound.  I had a 9lb ham took it out of the freezer Friday morning, it was ready Sunday morning.

2.  Line the bottom of your slow cooker with brown sugar.  Sorry I don't measure I just made sure the bottom wasn't showing :)

3.  Drop the ham in the slow cooker, and add the desired beer.  For this recipe I used Point Special Lager.  Again its totally up to you just don't use a light beer.  I filled the slow cooker up about 3/4" of the way.

4.  Set the temperature to low and let it cook for about 5hrs.  About every hour or so I poured some of the beer on the top to keep it extra moist.

5.  Place the ham in pan to cool, carve it and enjoy!  Your ham should look like this:
*The lighting in the kitchen sucks & the ham looks better in person.

For the record I do have some recopies that do not require beer.  However I have acquired a large assortment of beer from people & was trying to use it all up before it goes bad :)
